Eastman Esmeri SK1N10: 5 Formulation Trial Checks

Eastman launched Esmeri SK1N10 for skin and sun care. Buyers should separate ingredient claims from finished-formula testing.

Eastman announced Esmeri™ SK1N10 on October 21, 2026, describing it as a readily biodegradable, non-nano cellulose ester micropowder for skin care and sun care. The company says the ingredient is designed for aqueous and oil-in-water systems and identifies its INCI as Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (and) Disodium Succinate.

The launch gives private-label buyers a timely reason to review how a new sensorial powder should enter a development brief. It does not establish finished-product performance. Eastman states that SPF and other results depend on the overall formulation and must be validated through testing.

What the supplier reports

According to Eastman, the ingredient is intended to support quick dry-down, reduced tackiness, shine control and a soft, powdery finish. The company also reports a UV-scattering mechanism that may enhance organic and inorganic UV filters. Eastman says the material meets biodegradability criteria referenced in EU Regulation 2023/2055 and is not considered a synthetic polymer microparticle under that regulation.

These are supplier statements about an ingredient. They should inform a test plan, not become automatic claims for a serum, cream, eye treatment or sunscreen.

Five checks before approving a trial

1. Lock the exact material identity

Record the full trade name, INCI, supplier, grade and manufacturing source in the brief. Request the current specification, safety data sheet, technical data and market-relevant compliance documents for the exact sample lot.

2. Define the formulation boundary

Confirm whether the target is aqueous or oil-in-water, the intended product type and the proposed use level. Ask the formulator to document the addition stage, dispersion method and any processing limits rather than assuming one protocol fits every base.

3. Separate sensory screening from stability

Compare tack, dry-down, shine and finish against a control using a defined evaluation method. Then run the project's normal stability and packaging-compatibility work. A favorable first application does not replace longer observation of viscosity, appearance, odor, separation and pack interaction.

4. Treat SPF as a finished-formula result

If the project is sunscreen, do not convert an ingredient-level SPF-boosting statement into a label value or reduce UV filters before testing. Set the target market, filter system and packaging first, then validate the finished formula through the appropriate laboratory protocol and regulatory review.

5. Document the regulatory rationale

Ask for the evidence supporting the supplier's biodegradable and non-nano descriptions and have the responsible regulatory party assess the exact use and destination market. The supplier product page itself advises formulators to evaluate the ingredient and finished product against applicable requirements.

A practical next step for buyers

Build a two-stage brief: first, a bench comparison against the current formula; second, a controlled sample using the intended pack. Define acceptance criteria before testing and keep sensory, stability, SPF and regulatory conclusions in separate result fields.
